How to Prepare for an Upgrade with Sage Accpac:
- Ensure your backups are done for all data and system database
- Ensure you have ALL batches posted or deleted
- Ensure you have given staff adequate warning of the likely time the system will be down.
- Catalogue your custom reports and modified standard reports
- Catalogue your customised screens
- Ensure there is adequate free disk space on your server (as a general rule 7 times the size of your database should be free)
- Have a list of all passwords required (users on networks and Sage ERP)
- Data Integrity check on all modules
- Plan to test your system after it has been upgraded.
- Make your consultant coffee and be nice to him/her, depending on the size of the database they may be working through the night.
Why Upgrade:
The most obvious reason to upgrade your system is to reap the extra functionality provided with the upgrade, however this interestingly is not the most important,
Your system quitely ticks over every day doing its thing, producing reports, maintaining your debtors, creditors and profitibility. Now just imagine, something goes wrong......you lose your system: fire, hard disk crash, theft etc. You have no system , nothing, and the lonely feeling of data withdrawl creeps in,
Well, you have your backups...GREAT ! You rebuild the machine, FANTASTIC! The software however wont install....WHY ?
Your accounting software is over 4 years old because never upgraded, and doesn't support the changes and new technologies that your new modern operating systems installed on your new server has and your old operating system is so out of date you can't buy it anywhere. And more importantly you can't find anyone with the expertise to do it...Your worst nightmare just came true !
Keeping your software current is like insurance, it is protection for your business, not just a list of feature enhancements.
The cost of NOT upgrading is far geater than the cost to do so.
